Friends, Grantors, and Supporters

With thanks to our entire community of friends for their ongoing support:

We couldn’t do any of this good work without the support of individuals who made financial gifts, small and large, to the Old Church Gallery during the past year.  We’ve not only heard from our Floyd community, but also from friends in New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and greater Virginia. In addition, gifts were made in memory of those who so appreciated the work of local history organizations in Floyd County. We hold their memory close to our hearts. Thank you!

“Give Local NRV”

Thank you to the Community Foundation of the New River Valley, sponsor of “Give Local NRV.” We depend upon donations to maintain the Gallery house, pay our operating costs, and keep our technology current. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, every dollar contributed to Old Church Gallery goes to work to move our programs forward.

With yet more plans on our agenda, see how we put prior funding to work!

We couldn’t have done it without: Many volunteer hours and grantor support helping us fulfill Phase One of our ”Opening the Digital Door” project. Beginning with a 2015 Community Foundation of the New River Valley grant, which funded a digital archives consultant and the implementation of recommended strategies, we began to build a digital archives structure to carry forward. As we progressed, additional CFNRV grants in 2017 and 2019 funded Phases Two and Three, which provided us with iMac computers, a web design consultant, interns, supplies, and software. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done it without: The support and encouragement of staff and administration at Floyd County High School. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done it without: In-kind assistance, staff, and college mentors for Floyd Story Center’s 2007-2020 “Roots With Wings” oral history project. Critical program support came from Radford University’s Center for Social and Cultural Research, Honors Program, Scholar-Citizen Initiative, Citizen Leader Program, and Appalachian Regional and Rural Studies Center. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done it without: The support of Hotel Floyd for in-kind use of hotel visitor suites during our 2007-2018 “Roots with Wings” interviews. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done it without: Generous annual support for our 2015-2019 “Roots With Wings” oral history project from our friends at “Feisty Floyd Filanthropists,” which provided recording equipment, media, and classroom supplies. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done it without: Matching funds from the Town of Floyd via a Virginia Commission for the Arts grant toward operating cost support for Old Church Gallery facilities. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done it without:  A 2017 grant from the Larry Woodrow Vest fund at the Foundation for Roanoke Valley, which provided archival storage supplies, a large format scanner, a slide and negative scanner, and presentation binders. Thank you.

We couldn’t have done it without: A major 2017 Virginia Humanities grant, which funded the development, production, and public presentations of our “From the Front Porch to the Front Lines” WWII DVD oral history film set. Thank you.
