Description
This split basket is lightweight but strong with well-spaced stakes and thin weavers. The handle ends are tapered and bent back up through the bottom rows of weaving which helps secure the handle. The rim is also tapered and overlaps where the ends meet. Crossed lashing attaches it to the basket.

This basket was purchased at an auction in Indian Valley and donated to Old Church Gallery. It appears to have been woven by the same, as yet unidentified, basket maker as the Mannon family round market basket in our collection.
