Description
This egg basket has finely whittled white oak ribs. The basket is woven with traditional Appalachian “ears” and a top rod held in place by figure-eight lashing. The handle and main rim are white oak and are fastened together with nails. Some of the weaving around the rim has deteriorated.

Jabe Maston “Dock” Hylton (1894-1958) was the son of Simon Andrew and Virginia Atabel Harman Hylton. Dock married Ila E. Turman (1896-1987). The basket was passed down to their daughter Virginia Adaline Hylton Bond Alderman.
