Bio Sketch

Sarah Amanda Phlegar (1909 – 1993) was the last of her family to live in the homeplace built around 1816 by George and Mary Magdaline Goodykoontz Phlegar.  She was the daughter of  William Shirey Phlegar who was the son of Benjamin Phlegar who was the son of George Phlegar and Mary Magdaline Goodykoontz Phlegar.

The Phlegar and Goodykoontz families were among a number of German-American families settling  what is now Floyd County in the late 1790s to early 1800s.

Notes

The George Phlegar homestead and farm were acquired by Floyd County and developed as the Floyd Regional Commerce Center. A two-acre plot including the house is in the care of the Floyd County Historical Preservation Trust. In 2003 the property was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
