Description

Strips of quadrilaterals are joined together to create a  quilt that looks like an abstract painting. Most of these quadrilaterals measure five inches in width but this varies with some strips measuring as narrow as four and a half inches in width. Individual quadrilaterals include many blue and black prints but other quadrilaterals are machine-pieced from as many as twelve different scraps of material. Pink and yellow quadrilaterals are scattered randomly among the darker pieces. The strips meet in a shallow V as they slant toward the bottom of the quilt and meet off-center (29 inches from the left edge and 43 inches from the right edge). Before adding the batting and backing layers, the maker extended the length of the quilt by adding a four and a half inch strip to the top. This strip uses complementary materials but is pieced from random triangles and irregularly-shaped quadrilaterals. The backing is a greenish-gray gingham cotton and the quilter used large stitches (6 per inch) in a matching thread to quilt rows.
