Description
This armless chair features gently curved cross rails on its back with turned ears topping the stiles. The ears and tops of the front legs are rounded. The oak chair frame has been painted a soft blue. The handwoven oak split seat has been recently re-bottomed.

Charles Henry Hylton (1862-1951) was married to Sarah Ellen Pratt. The son of Henry T. and Catherine Hylton Hylton, Charlie built this chair for his daughter Hattie, who was the fifth of his seven children. Charlie was listed in the U.S. Census records (1900 to 1940) as a farmer and was also known for the quality oak baskets he wove. See examples of his basketry here.
